The November milestone
Under UKAS’s bulletin dated 7 October 2026, the second and final phase of ISO 14001:2026 transition decisions is scheduled to run from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. The same update moved the first decision tranche to 30 October. Those dates describe the published programme, not confirmation that every certification body has completed its assessment.
The bulletin retains a 31 December 2026 deadline for certification bodies’ self-declarations and a 30 April 2029 transition deadline for their certified customers. It also requires a positive accreditation decision before certification to the revised edition can be issued under UKAS accreditation.

Keep the focus on environmental results
The standard itself was published on 15 April 2026. ISO’s release describes clearer guidance and closer attention to climate change, biodiversity and resource efficiency, alongside leadership and management of impacts across operations and value chains. The new decision phase is therefore part of the transition to an edition already published; it is not a second release of the standard.

ISOaudit analysis: test one operational trail
An environmental team can use the next planning meeting to select one material operational issue and trace it through the management system. For example, start with an environmental objective, identify the activity and supplier arrangements that influence it, then inspect the records used to judge progress. Choose an example that reflects the organisation’s own activities rather than copying a generic checklist.
Keep changes to documentation connected to that operational trail. If responsibility has moved, identify who now receives the information and makes the decision. If performance data has changed, retain an explanation of the method and any limits on comparison. These are suggested preparation steps, not a claim that a particular record format is mandatory under the standard.

ISOAUDIT PRACTICAL STEPS
What to consider next
- Confirm your certification body’s transition timetable and accreditation position before scheduling the transition audit.
- Keep the certification-body milestones and your organisation’s transition plan as separate entries.
- Select an environmental performance example for internal review, with an owner and a follow-up date.
These practical steps are ISOaudit’s interpretation. Check the cited information and the requirements that apply to your organisation and certification scope.
